Plus costs £20 a month. That's over three times the price for barely any extra capability. If you're torn between Go and Plus, Go is almost certainly the right choice.

Use Go if: You want to try ChatGPT seriously without breaking the bank. You use ChatGPT several times a week. You want the full model (GPT-4o), not the cut-down version.

ChatGPT Plus: £20/month (for heavy daily users)

Plus is for people who use ChatGPT for hours every day. It includes GPT-4o, plus early access to new features, and the o1 model (better at reasoning and maths). You get 500 messages per 3 hours instead of Go's 50, so you can use it for hours at a stretch without hitting limits.

For an over-50 learner, Plus is probably overkill. You'd pay an extra £14 a month (compared to Go) for a message limit you'll never hit and features you might not use.

Plus makes sense if: You use ChatGPT professionally (writing, coding, design, research). You're an early adopter who wants the newest features first. You're hitting Go's 50-message ceiling regularly.

ChatGPT Pro: £200/month (professionals only)

Pro is a specialist tier for AI researchers and professionals. It includes all models, unlimited access, and priority support. Unless you work in AI development or advanced data analysis, you don't need it.

Data security and privacy: What OpenAI does with your information

OpenAI says it doesn't train new models on your chat history (you can disable chat history entirely in settings). Your data isn't sold to third parties. Conversations are encrypted in transit.

However, and this matters, OpenAI is a US company. Under US law, your data can be accessed by US government agencies.
