Here is a short, no-nonsense rundown of the cookies WellWired uses, why we use them, and how to switch them off if you would rather we did not.
What are cookies?
Cookies are tiny text files a website drops onto your computer, tablet, or phone. Most do mundane jobs like remembering you picked dark mode or kept you logged in. Some, the ones people tend to worry about, are used to count visitors or feed advertising networks. We only use the counting kind, and only if you say yes.
What WellWired uses
Google Analytics (optional)
When you accept the banner on your first visit, we load Google Analytics. It tells us anonymous things like which pages get read and which ones nobody bothers with, so we know where to spend our time. To be clear, it does not tell us who you are, and it never sees your name, email, or anything you type into the chatbot. What it does see:
- Which pages you opened
- Roughly how long you stayed on each one
- Your device and browser (so we know whether to test more on iPad)
- Your country, never your full address or anything narrower
Decline the banner and none of this loads. No analytics cookies, no pings to Google, nothing. The site works just the same.
| Cookie name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes visitors for analytics | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Maintains session state for Google Analytics | 2 years |
Local storage (close cousin of cookies)
Your browser also has something called local storage, which behaves a bit like a cookie but never leaves your device. We use it for a handful of small things, all listed below. None of it reaches our servers.
| Item | Purpose |
|---|---|
| cookie-consent | Remembers whether you accepted or declined cookies |
| quiz progress | Saves your progress in any quizzes so you do not lose it |
| wellwired-course-email | Remembers course access on your device after purchase verification |
| wellwired-course-completed-modules | Shows which course modules you have opened on this device |
Third-party cookies
The only outside service that drops cookies on this site is Google Analytics, and only after you opt in. No ad networks, no Facebook pixel, no behavioural tracking, no resold profiles. We have actively chosen to do without them.
How to manage cookies
Three ways to take charge of what is set:
- Our cookie banner. The very first time you land on WellWired you get a choice. Changed your mind later? Clear local storage for wellwired.ai in your browser and refresh, and the banner comes back.
- Your browser settings. Every modern browser hides a cookie controls panel somewhere under Privacy or Security. From there you can block them site-by-site, wipe them whenever you fancy, or refuse them across the board.
- Google's own opt-out. If you want to stop Google Analytics tracking you across every site you visit, not just ours, install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
UK regulations
We follow the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) and the UK GDPR. Plain English version: anything non-essential, including Google Analytics, waits for your yes before it loads.
